Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts. -- Richard Feynman
The COORS study group has been active for more than 30 years, learning, researching, and improving the knowledge of the members for the benefit of their patients. COORS is a registered study club with the Academy of General Dentistry and grants continuing education credit. Membership is open to dentists who seek intellectual honesty, desire deep learning, and have respect for others that are also on this quest. Scholarships are available for recent graduates because the old docs like to help the young docs.
The group's guiding mentor is Dr. David Carsten. Dave is a biochemist, dentist, and anesthesiologist. He has multiple articles in the literature on various topics and teaches in many venues.. Dr. Dave also teaches the "Science of Everything", "Real Life Nutrition" for some very smart kids and parents at Village Home Education Resource Center in Portland, Oregon.
What does COORS mean? The original acronym was Columbia Orthodontic and Orthopaedic Research Study group. Times, people, and understanding has changed. The focus now is on the inter-relationships of the whole body and mind using good science. Hence the Latin root "Omni" replaced "Orthodontic and Orthopaedic". Omni means "everything" to reflect the fact that this group has a broad focus on health. Columbia refers to the Columbia River, our geographic anchor. We study the best research and practices, seeking the closest approximation to truth that we can find. We will examine and explore science relevant to health, including the health and disease of the mouth.
