The Department of Spiritual Care of Salmon Creek Legacy Hospital invited me to present their in-service continuing education this month. The topic was the scientific study of prayer. The results of different types of prayerful interactions with other humans is a fascinating examination of behavior and its ramifications in healthcare. The very positive influence of meditative and relational prayer was clear. What is less clear is the value of intercessory prayer. We had a lively exchange of information that was done with good humor. I believe we all left with practical ideas that we can put to work immediately. The ultimate purpose is to relieve suffering and be more compassionate human beings. Thank you Chaplain Gwen Morgan and Chaplain Barbara Harris for inviting me to share this program.
